Every 9/11 · Liberty State Park
The Tribute in Lights Photo Shoot
One night a year, police, fire and EMS apparatus line up at Liberty State Park to be photographed beneath the twin beams. We will never forget.
The event
A one-of-a-kind tribute
Since 2006, a small committee of New Jersey fire photographers has turned the anniversary of September 11th into something lasting: portraits of the apparatus and the departments that carry on the work, set against the skyline and the Tribute in Light.
Departments register in advance, then on the night of September 11th bring their rigs to Liberty State Park in Jersey City, directly across the Hudson from Lower Manhattan. As the beams come up, the event photographers work through each vehicle — engines, ladders, rescues, ambulances, police units and command posts, plus privately owned antique apparatus.
It's free to participate, and it doesn't happen anywhere else in the world.
